Talking about the manufacturing process of carbon fiber cloth in Shenzhen

Carbon fiber was fired at high temperature as a reinforced material in the 1950s and used to produce missile accessories. The initial fibers are manufactured by heating until they form rayon. The process is inefficient, and the resulting fibers contain carbon with only about 20 percent low strength and stiffness properties. In the early 1960s, the development and utilization of polyacrylonitrile as raw material made carbon fiber contain 55% carbon and have better performance. The basic method for the conversion process of polyacrylonitrile quickly became the basic method for the initial carbon fiber production.

In the 1970s, some people experimented with refining and processing carbon fiber from petroleum. These fibers contain about 85% carbon and have excellent flexural strength. Unfortunately, they have limited compressive strength and are not widely accepted.

Carbon fiber is an important part of many products, and the application of carbon fiber is developing rapidly year by year.

Graphite fiber refers to a kind of ultra-high modulus fiber produced with petroleum pitch as raw material. These fibers have the characteristics of a three-dimensional crystal arrangement of the internal structure and are a pure form of carbon called graphite.

raw material

The raw material used to produce carbon fiber is called precursor, and about 90% of carbon fiber production raw material is polyacrylonitrile. The remaining 10% is made of rayon and petroleum pitch.

All of these materials are organic polymers, characterized by molecules bound together by long strings of carbon atoms.

In the production process, various gases and liquids are used, some of these materials are designed to react with fibers to achieve specific effects, other materials are designed, or do not react to prevent certain reactions with fibers. The exact composition of many of the materials in these processes is also considered a trade secret.

manufacturing process

In the chemical and mechanical part of the carbon fiber manufacturing process, the precursor strands or fibers are drawn into a furnace and then heated to a very high temperature in the absence of oxygen. Without oxygen, the fibers cannot burn. Instead, the high temperature causes the fiber atoms to vibrate violently until finally non-carbon atoms are removed. This process, called carbonization, consists of long bundles of fibers that are tightly interlocked, leaving only a few non-carbon atoms remaining. This is a typical sequence of operations for the production of carbon fibers using polyacrylonitrile.

1. Carbon fiber cloth is a conductive material, and it should be kept away from electrical equipment and power sources and reliable protective measures should be taken during placement and construction.

2. The bending of carbon cloth should be avoided during storage, transportation and construction.

3. The supporting resin of carbon fiber cloth should be sealed and stored away from fire sources, direct sunlight and places with high temperature sources.

4. The place where the resin is prepared and used should be kept well ventilated.

5. Workers working on site should take corresponding effective protection measures.
