Carbon fiber has become so popular, but do you really understand it?

As we all know, carbon fiber is a new type of fiber material with high strength and high modulus fiber with a carbon content of more than 95%. It has the characteristics of “soft on the outside and rigid on the inside”. The shell is hard and soft like textile fibers. Its weight is lighter than metal aluminum, but its strength is higher than that of steel. It also has the characteristics of corrosion resistance and high modulus. It is often called “new “King of materials”, also known as “black gold”, is a new generation of reinforcing fibers.

These are superficial science knowledge, how many people know about carbon fiber in depth?

1. Carbon cloth

Starting from the simplest carbon cloth, carbon fiber is a very thin fiber. Its shape is similar to that of a hair, but it is hundreds of times smaller than a hair. However, if you want to use carbon fiber materials to make products, you must weave carbon fibers into cloth. Then lay it on layer by layer, this is the so-called carbon fiber cloth.

2. Unidirectional cloth

Carbon fibers are bundled in bundles, and the carbon fibers are arranged in the same direction to form a unidirectional cloth. Netizens said that it is not good to use carbon fiber with unidirectional cloth. In fact, this is just an arrangement and has nothing to do with the quality of carbon fiber.

Because unidirectional fabrics are not aesthetically pleasing, marbling appears.

Now carbon fiber is seen in the market with marble texture, but few people know how it comes from? In fact, it is also simple, that is, to get the broken carbon fiber on the surface of the product, then apply resin, and then vacuumize, so that these pieces stick to it, thus forming the carbon fiber pattern.

3. Woven cloth

Woven cloth is usually called 1K, 3K, 12K carbon cloth. 1K refers to the composition of 1000 carbon fibers, which are then woven together. This has nothing to do with the material of carbon fiber, it’s just about the appearance.

4. Resin

Resin is used to coat carbon fiber. If there is no carbon fiber coated with resin, it is very soft. 3,000 carbon filaments will be broken if you pull it lightly by hand. But after coating resin, the carbon fiber becomes harder than iron and stronger than steel. Still strong.

Grease is also exquisite, one is called presoak, and the other is common method.

Pre-impregnation is to apply the resin in advance before sticking the carbon cloth to the mold; the common method is to apply it as it is used.

The prepreg is stored at low temperature and cured at high temperature and pressure, so that the carbon fiber will have higher strength. The common method is to mix the resin and curing agent together, apply it to the carbon cloth, stick it tightly, then vacuum it, and let it sit for a few hours.
